Twelve diocese schools in the two counties
The Diocese of Salt Lake City counts 16 Catholic schools in Utah. Twelve are in our area: Blessed Sacrament in Sandy, J.E. Cosgriff, Kearns-St. Ann, Our Lady of Lourdes and The Madeleine Choir School in Salt Lake City, St. Andrew in Riverton, St. Francis Xavier in Kearns, St. John the Baptist in Draper, St. Vincent de Paul in Holladay, St. Marguerite in Tooele, and the two high schools, Judge Memorial in Salt Lake City and Juan Diego in Draper. St. Olaf in Bountiful and the Ogden schools fall outside Salt Lake and Tooele counties.
Where they stand on the two scholarship lists
When we matched lists in October 2026, every Diocese of Salt Lake City school in our Salt Lake and Tooele directory appeared on the approved 2026-27 Utah Fits All list, and all of them also appear on USBE's Carson Smith eligible list. That gives a parish family a real choice: the flat $8,000 Utah Fits All award, or, for a child with an IEP, a Carson Smith scholarship at the same school. The tables below show each school's status as the lists printed it.
How Catholic families have used Utah Fits All
Catholic schools were early adopters. In 2024-25, the first full year, Catholic-school students held 891 of the 10,000 Utah Fits All scholarships statewide, according to the Intermountain Catholic. Because returning students are funded first, a family already on the scholarship at a parish school is in the strongest position each spring; a younger sibling gains the second-priority place.
Skaggs aid and the balance
The diocese's Skaggs Tuition Assistance Program helped 154 students in 2024-25. Families apply through the school office, and the diocese's scholarship coordinator is Father Jeff Putthoff, S.J. Ask whether the school sets Skaggs aid after counting your Utah Fits All award, and whether a parishioner rate applies, because both change what you owe on the remaining tuition.
High school and college credit
Judge Memorial and Juan Diego both serve grades 9-12 and both matched the 2026-27 Utah Fits All list. One Utah rule catches families by surprise: private-school students are not eligible for state-funded concurrent enrollment. A private school can contract directly with a college such as Salt Lake Community College or the University of Utah to offer it, so ask each high school whether it has such an agreement and what the course fees are.
