What the Utah Fits All Scholarship pays for
Utah Fits All works like a restricted education account rather than a tuition voucher. Here is what Salt Lake and Tooele families can buy with it in 2026-27, what Odyssey refuses, and the receipt habits that keep reimbursements moving.
| Expense | Utah Fits All rule | In Salt Lake City |
|---|---|---|
| Private school tuition and fees | Payable to a school on Odyssey's approved list. The parent selects the school and the school confirms enrollment before the $8,000 private-school amount is released. Refunds go back to Odyssey, never to the parent. | Most Salt Lake and Tooele Catholic schools of the diocese matched the 2026-27 approved list; several east-bench independent schools did not. Check the school page before you select. |
| Tutoring | Allowed from an approved marketplace provider that delivers the service itself. Brokers and intermediaries are not allowed, and a parent cannot be paid to teach their own child. | A home-based family in Herriman, Stansbury Park or the east bench can build a week around one or two marketplace tutors. |
| After-school, summer and fine-arts programs | After-school and summer education programs and fine-arts instruction are allowed. After-school extracurriculars and physical education are each capped at 20% of the award. | On a $4,000 home-based award, the 20% cap means about $800 for extracurriculars and about $800 for physical education. |
| Educational therapies | Occupational, behavioral, physical, audiology and speech-language therapy from approved providers. Residential treatment is not covered. | This is the main way Utah Fits All supports a child with an IEP, since it has no higher disability amount. Compare it with a Carson Smith scholarship. |
| Curriculum, textbooks and supplies | Textbooks and curriculum, educational software, school supplies, STEM kits, manipulatives and instrument rental. | When a Wasatch Front co-op shares a curriculum, each family pays its own share from its own account. |
| Computers and electronics | Laptops, desktops, tablets, printers and 3D printers up to $1,500 each; monitors and cameras up to $500; headphones up to $200. For 2026-27, any good over $1,000 gets extra review and is capped at 110% of the matching marketplace price. | A September 2026 legislative report questioned $468,665 spent statewide on headphones, so expect close review of electronics. |
| Transportation | Transportation is an allowed expense under Utah Code 53F-6-401. General travel costs are not. | Tooele County families commuting to a valley school should ask Odyssey how their carpool or transit cost is treated before paying. |
| Assistive devices and internet service | Assistive devices and home internet service are allowed expenses. | Useful for families in the outer reaches of Tooele County using online courses alongside a home program. |
| Reimbursements and receipts | Reimbursements are processed within 10 business days. Cash and check payments need a receipt from the vendor's point-of-sale system. | Keep the point-of-sale receipt for every cash or check payment to a local provider; a handwritten receipt is not enough for 2026-27. |
| What Utah Fits All won't pay for | Pro or college sports, movie and theater tickets; ski passes and snow sports; recreational facilities except for physical education; residential treatment; recreational or overnight camps; general-purpose items such as power tools, firearms and gym equipment; travel; and paying a parent. | Ski season passes at the Cottonwood Canyons resorts are a common question here; Odyssey lists ski passes and snow sports as prohibited. |

Check the approved list
Odyssey publishes the approved 2026-27 private-school list. Our school pages show whether each Salt Lake and Tooele school matched it; confirm with the school before you enroll.
Salt Lake City schools →One award per child
A child using Utah Fits All cannot also hold a Carson Smith scholarship that year. A sibling with an IEP can take the Carson Smith path instead.
