Utah Fits All Scholarship calculator: how far does it go against your tuition?

Salt Lake families usually face one choice for each child: Utah Fits All at $8,000, or a Carson Smith scholarship for a child with an IEP. Because Utah allows only one per child, this calculator shows them side by side rather than adding them.

Quick answer

The SLC Edu Funding calculator sets the 2026-27 Utah Fits All award of $8,000 per private-school student against a Salt Lake or Tooele school's tuition. It shows a Carson Smith scholarship as a separate path, because a Utah child can hold only one of the two in a year.

Path A

Utah Fits All Scholarship

Utah Fits All, all children (2026-27)—
Tuition and fees, all children—
Gap to pay / left in the account—

Odyssey rolls two-thirds of an unspent Utah Fits All balance into the next year, capped at $2,000; the rest does not carry over.

Path B

Carson Smith Opportunity Scholarship

Carson Smith awards, all children—
Tuition and fees, all children—
Gap to pay—

For a current original Carson Smith student, USBE's 2026-27 amounts are $7,305 or $12,175 depending on daily service minutes. For the Carson Smith Opportunity Scholarship, enter the amount Children First Education Fund offers; USBE has not posted a 2026-27 figure.

Choose one per child each year. Utah lets a child hold only one of Utah Fits All, the original Carson Smith Scholarship or the Carson Smith Opportunity Scholarship at a time, so these are alternatives for that child, never a combined total.

Utah Fits All figures are the 2026-27 private-school amount set in Utah Code 53F-6-402 and published by Odyssey. Home-based students receive $4,000 (ages 5-11) or $6,000 (ages 12-18) and are not modeled here.

Common questions

Why does the Salt Lake calculator not add Utah Fits All and Carson Smith together?

The calculator keeps Utah Fits All and Carson Smith separate because USBE allows a child to hold only one of Utah Fits All, the original Carson Smith Scholarship or the Carson Smith Opportunity Scholarship at a time. Adding them would overstate the money. A Salt Lake family compares the two paths and picks the one that leaves the smaller gap.

What Carson Smith amount should a Salt Lake family enter in the calculator?

A current original Carson Smith Scholarship student should enter $7,305 for 1 to 179 daily service minutes or $12,175 for 180 or more, the 2026-27 USBE amounts, never more than tuition. A new Carson Smith Opportunity Scholarship applicant should enter the award Children First Education Fund offers, since USBE has not posted a 2026-27 dollar figure.

Does the Utah Fits All calculator include the homeschool amounts?

The Utah Fits All calculator models only the $8,000 private-school award, because it sets the award against tuition. Home-based students receive $4,000 at ages 5 to 11 or $6,000 at ages 12 to 18 for 2026-27, and Salt Lake homeschool families spend that on curriculum, tutoring and approved providers rather than a single tuition bill.
